Eye Dryness (Keratoconjunctivitis Sicca)

The lens of the eyeball consists mainly of water and protein. After the age of 4–5years, a dark shadiness and dryness starts in their eye (Iris) or corneal pigmentation, which need to be taken care from starting stage of the issue, else they might lose their eye sight completely over in 1–2years from the issue started.

Redness In Eyes (Cherry eyes)

Redness in eyes is not always painful but should not be ignored.

PRA is a genetic condition that causes degeneration of the retina over time, eventually leading to blindness.

Eye Popping Out (ocular proptosis)

Pugs’ eyes pop out is due to their head structure. Pugs have flatten face & extended head shape, which pushes their eyes forward. This causes their eyes pop outward.

Cause: flatten face & head OR Trauma
Symptoms: Cloudy cornea, red and inflamed tissue around eye
Treatment: eye surgery

Corneal Ulcers

The protruding eyes of pugs can be easily scratched or injured, leading to corneal ulcers.

Cause: excessive tearing, squinting or pawing at the eyes
Symptoms: pain, redness, frequent rubbing, light sensitivity, discharge, and a noticeable film over the eyes.

Distichiasis

Distichiae, or additional eyelashes, grow on the eyelid and irritate the surface of the eye, resulting in distichiasis.

Cause: pain, abrasions on the cornea and copious tears
Symptoms: pain, redness, frequent rubbing, light sensitivity, discharge, and a noticeable film over the eyes.

Glaucoma

This disorder causes elevated intraocular pressure in the eye, which can harm the optic nerve and cause blindness. Pugs have a higher risk of developing primary closed-angle glaucoma.

Cause: pain, abrasions on the cornea and copious tears
Symptoms: pain, redness, frequent rubbing, light sensitivity, discharge, and a noticeable film over the eyes.
Treatment: eye drops

Entropion

The big eyelids of a pug may fold beneath, shoving eyelashes into the eyes and resulting in infection and irritation. At six months old, this is typical.

Cause: eyelashes are forced into the eyes by the folded eyelids.
Symptom: Eyelid deformation (upward or inward), a milky appearance, redness, swelling and persistent scratching.
Treatment: surgery

pug4Being proactive and regular veterinary check-ups can help detect and manage eye issues early, potentially preventing more serious complications.

Although pugs is a lazy dog breed, they still need fun and exercise every day. To ensure that they are well-mannered, they need constant training and socialization, just like any other dog. Because of their short coat, they have relatively low upkeep grooming requirements.

They don’t lie, they don’t hypocrite, they don’t betray, they don’t hurt.
They have the most beautiful spirit of all God’s creations 😍🐾❤️
